History: Kim
White founder of the White Angel, comes from a background where both parents were
in law enforcement. Kim’s mother worked as parole
officer and social worker. Weekly she was faced with removing children from their
homes for neglect, abuse or to return their parents to jail. Kim’s father
worked as a Deputy Sheriff mainly in the child abuse detail. In both cases Kim’s
parents would deal with children who were scared, untrusting of adults/strangers
and didn’t have anyone or anything to turn to for comfort. Kim White’s
parents would often use their own funds to purchase toys to give to these emotionally
scared babies, children and young teens.
Once Kim became a mother of two, she was faced with taking her son to Henry
Mayo hospital for a medical treatment. Her son was hysterically crying and after
much unsuccessful consoling, a stranger gave her son a stuffed animal. Within
an instant a calm came over him and she noticed the gift helped soothed and comfort
him a way she couldn’t. With that moment and her parents past, she decided
to make sure other children in her hometown would be comforted the same way her
son was and the White Angel program was created.
